YMR Module Construction

Brenna's module started out with Steve's module plans. This module is made from 1x6 and 8/4 Poplar stock for the frame and legs. The top is made from 1/2" MDF plywood which has been rabbeted to fit over the frame such that only 1/4" is showing (keeping to the overall height requirement). The backing board is made from 1/4" MDF. MDF was chosen because it is easier to paint than Masonite or fir plywood.

Daddy made some adjustments. The first change was made to allow the legs to be stowed under the module. The second change was made to set the backing board over the layout using two spacer blocks and some long bolts so that the module and track would not be bumped when it is transported.

Two cleats were added and a notch was cut into the center support to make room for the legs.

Velcro strips were screwed into the cleats to hold the legs in place during transport.

Finally, a small storage box was added.

Here's the legs tucked away (before I added the storage box).

Since the ends of the tracks are covered when the bridge track is in place, we can use this spot to put a riser block to hold the backer board during transport as shown below.

Wing nuts were used with long bolts (6" x 1/4" in the back, 5-1/2" x 1/4" in the front) to hold it all together.Wing Nuts
